The Roads and Highways Minister, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has underscored that government has cleared all arrears owed to the Tema Motorway contractor, removing financial hurdles to fast-track work on Ghana’s key transport link.
Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday, June 17, the Minister told MPs that no payments are currently outstanding under the contract. He noted that settling contractor debts has been prioritised to prevent funding gaps that often stall project delivery.
“On record, the Motorway contract is ongoing and as of this morning, we don’t owe the contractor any amount of money. All outstanding claims have been settled. We will endeavour to continue to encourage the contractors working on this project to hurry up.”
The Tema Motorway is a major route connecting Accra to the industrial hub of Tema and onward to Togo. It supports cargo movement, port activities and regional trade across West Africa, making it a strategic national asset.
He further called on the contractor to scale up site operations and speed up delivery, adding that government expects clear progress now that all financial obligations have been met.
