The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) will begin a decongestion exercise on May 20, 2025, targeting areas around the city. The three-day operation will focus on removing hawkers and traders who impede pedestrian and vehicular movement.

The exercise is being carried out in strict enforcement of the AMA Hawkers Bye-Laws (2017) and Section 117(1) of the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2180). The AMA has directed all affected persons to vacate the designated areas by the close of day on May 19, 2025.

The operation will cover areas including the AMA Head Office, Kinbu Road, ECG Junction, Opera Square, Wato Junction, King Tackie Tawiah School, UTC Road, Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Kaneshie, Pamprom Lane, and other specified locations over the three-day period.

The exercise is being supported by the Ghana Police Service, market leaders, transport unions, and other key stakeholders.
