The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has called on party members to prioritise unity as a prerequisite for electoral success.
Speaking at Boli in the Wa Central Constituency during his thank-you tour of the Upper West Region, he stressed that internal cohesion is more decisive than individual campaign efforts. He cautioned that divisions within the party could undermine electoral gains, urging members to manage disagreements constructively.
Mr Nketiah commended the relative harmony within the party in the constituency and across the region, attributing it in part to the NDC’s success in the 2024 general elections. He also expressed appreciation to traditional leaders for their support.
He revealed that a committee established by John Dramani Mahama has recommended upgrading the Wa Municipality to metropolitan status, a move expected to increase resource allocation and support development and job creation.
Additionally, the Wa West District has been proposed for elevation to municipal status, which he said would enhance local governance and improve access to development funds.
Addressing chiefs and residents at Dorimon, Mr Nketiah encouraged active citizen participation in governance to sustain development efforts.
Meanwhile, Naa Alhaji Seidu Tungbani Salinbile II raised concerns about uneven development within the district. He advocated the creation of a separate district for the Dorimon Traditional Area, arguing that it would address longstanding disparities.
He also highlighted key infrastructure challenges, including the abandoned Wa-Dorimon road and the stalled Dorimon E-Block project, calling for urgent government intervention.
