The National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate in the Ayawaso East by-election, Baba Jamal, has called on his supporters to remain calm and law-abiding as voting continues across the constituency.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, March 3, after casting his ballot at the Alhaji Iddrisu House 2 polling station, Baba Jamal acknowledged that the journey to election day had been challenging, beginning from the party primaries.
“You all know that this has not been an easy process for me, starting from the day of the primaries through to the voting today. But I give thanks to Almighty Allah for taking me through to this point,” he said.
The NDC aspirant noted that he had toured more than 25 polling stations and described the process so far as peaceful. He commended the police for their professionalism and the role they have played in maintaining order.
“We commend the police for taking good care of the process. So far, it has been very peaceful,” he added.
On voter turnout, Baba Jamal observed that participation appeared slow in the early hours but attributed this to the constituency’s predominantly Muslim population observing Ramadan. He expressed optimism that turnout would improve as the day progresses.
He further assured the electorate that his team would work to ensure a fair and transparent process.
“I’ve already advised all my supporters to stay calm and also be law-abiding. We want to see a peaceful process. We want to see a peaceful election,” he stressed.
Invoking faith during the holy month, he prayed for a smooth and credible exercise and expressed hope that he would be granted the opportunity to serve the people of Ayawaso East.
“It is God that makes kings. My prayer is that if God is doing his king, God will remember me in his blessings and let me have the opportunity to lead the people of East Ayawaso and to prove a point for my people,” he said.
