Kofi Adams, Ghana’s Minister of Sports and Recreation, says he would not be surprised if Andre Ayew earns a place in the national team squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ayew, who currently plays for NAC Breda, has not featured for the Black Stars since Ghana’s friendly matches against Nigeria and Uganda in March 2024.
The 36-year-old forward has since been omitted from several national team call-ups, including qualifiers for the Africa Cup of Nations and the World Cup.
Ayew joined NAC Breda in January after leaving French side Le Havre at the end of last season following the expiration of his contract.
Speaking on Adom FM, Adams noted that Ayew remains a potential option for the national team as long as he has not announced his retirement.
“Dede Ayew, too, is picking up, and as long as he has not retired, I won’t be surprised if he makes it into the [2026 World Cup] squad,” he said.
Ayew has started NAC Breda’s last three matches in the Eredivisie and is seeking his first goal since joining the Dutch club.
