Baba Sadiq Abdulai Abu has expressed gratitude following his appointment as Ghana’s High Commissioner-designate to Nigeria.
President John Dramani Mahama named him to the diplomatic post, with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirming the appointment on 1 March 2026. He is expected to assume office after completing the required diplomatic processes.
In a social media message, Baba Sadiq said he was “profoundly honoured” by the confidence reposed in him by the President. He also thanked the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and pledged to serve Ghana with “diligence and integrity.”
He succeeds Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, popularly known as Baba Jamal, who was recalled after deciding to contest the Ayawaso East by-election following the death of MP Nasser Mahama Toure.
A prominent figure in Ghana’s creative and media industry, Baba Sadiq previously ran as the National Democratic Congress parliamentary candidate for Okaikwei Central in the 2024 general elections.
His appointment has been widely celebrated within the creative sector, with musicians, media personalities and entertainment executives praising his elevation as a milestone for the industry. Many have described it as recognition of the growing role of Ghana’s creative economy in national leadership and international representation, expressing confidence that he will bring cultural insight and innovation to Ghana’s mission in Abuja.
