The mortal remains of Bashiru Isak, the Ghanaian national killed during recent xenophobic attacks in South Africa, have arrived in Ghana and have been deposited at the 37 Military Hospital.
The body was received by government officials and members of the bereaved family following its arrival from Cape Town.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the Government of Ghana is demanding a swift and transparent investigation by South African authorities into the circumstances surrounding Mr Isak’s death.
According to the Ministry, the government expects those responsible for the fatal shooting to be identified and prosecuted, and has called for full cooperation between Ghanaian and South African authorities to establish the facts of the case.

The government has also announced that an independent autopsy will be conducted on Mr Isak’s remains.
The decision was taken in consultation with the deceased’s family after both the Ghana High Commission in Pretoria and the family were unable to obtain an official post-mortem report from the South African authorities.
The Ministry said the independent autopsy forms part of efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding Mr Isak’s death.
The Government has reiterated its commitment to pursuing justice and renewed its call on South African authorities to expedite investigations, arrest those responsible and ensure they are prosecuted.
