Police in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region have arrested a 48-year-old businessman, Francis Arthur, for allegedly murdering his girlfriend, Sally Benson, in what investigators have described as a case of domestic violence. The incident reportedly occurred on 14 April 2026 at Ayigya-Maxima following a dispute between the two.
According to police accounts, the deceased—accompanied by a female friend—visited Arthur’s residence after receiving information that another woman had been there. Arthur was initially absent, but upon his return, Benson confronted him. Chief Inspector Samuel Agyare indicated that the confrontation escalated into a heated altercation, during which Arthur allegedly assaulted her repeatedly.
Benson is said to have collapsed during the assault. Arthur subsequently transported her in her own vehicle to the KNUST Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Arthur appeared before the Asokore Mampong District Court, presided over by Her Worship Hilda Esther Wryter, on Tuesday. He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to reappear on 8 May 2026.
The death of Benson, a prominent Kumasi-based beautician and owner of Sally’s Cosmetics Studio and African’s Special pub in the Asokwa area, has elicited widespread shock among family and associates. Her father, Apostle Gabriel Oppong, expressed profound grief and called for justice.
He recounted that Benson had gone to confront Arthur after receiving information about another woman’s presence at his residence. According to him, the confrontation led to a violent assault during which she was beaten until she collapsed. Efforts to revive her proved unsuccessful before she was transported to the hospital.
Oppong emphasized the need for due process, urging that the law be allowed to take its course. He appealed to authorities to ensure justice is served, describing the loss as particularly devastating given that Benson was his only daughter.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital mortuary, where it awaits preservation and autopsy.
