Cabinet is expected to reconvene to complete deliberations on the Government’s Position Paper on the review of the 1992 Constitution after its scheduled meeting last Friday was postponed due to the National Clean-Up exercise.
Sources indicate that Cabinet has already undertaken preliminary discussions on the document, with only a few outstanding amendment proposals remaining before it can be approved.
A new date for the meeting has not yet been announced.
Once Cabinet endorses the position paper, the Attorney General and a team of legal experts will begin harmonising it with the report of the Constitutional Review Committee.
The harmonised documents will then be submitted to the Constitutional Review Implementation Committee for consideration.
Their submission is expected to usher in the next stage of the constitutional review process as government advances proposals to amend key provisions of the 1992 Constitution.
