The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) has launched an investigation into alleged human rights abuses in the Ada Songor enclave, following a violent incident on October 21, 2021.
Traditional leaders and protesters were reportedly subjected to police brutality, torture, and unlawful detention during a demonstration against the takeover of the Songor salt mining concession by Electrochem Ghana Limited, leaving one person dead.
A CHRAJ delegation, led by Clement Kadogbe, visited the affected communities to engage with victims and assure them of the Commission’s commitment to justice.
“We started our investigations and came here to speak to the people on the ground, to verify the claims firsthand,” Kadogbe said.
The investigation has heard from seven of nine complainants, as well as witnesses, chiefs, and opinion leaders.Victims expressed gratitude to CHRAJ, stressing the need for accountability. “I’m glad CHRAJ is here, because justice should prevail. They tortured and molested me,” one victim said
