The Ghana Police Service has intensified efforts to restore calm in the Nkwanta South Municipality following recent violent incidents, with the Oti Regional Police Commander leading a high-level engagement with community leaders and residents.
On March 26, 2026, the Oti Regional Police Commander, Alex Acquah, visited Nkwanta alongside senior officers to interact with police personnel and encourage vigilance, discipline, and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
As part of the visit, he led a joint security team comprising personnel from the police, military, and intelligence agencies to the Zongo community, where they met the Zongo Chief, Issaka Kayaba, and his elders.
The Commander conveyed condolences on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police and the Police Management Board to the community following the deaths of three adult males in recent violent attacks in the area.
Community leaders, in response, assured the delegation of their commitment to peace, non-retaliation, and coexistence, as security agencies work to stabilise the municipality. The engagement forms part of broader efforts to strengthen trust between residents and security forces.
DCOP Acquah also visited Dadaga, where a previous arson incident claimed two lives, to assess the situation on the ground.
The Regional Police Command says it continues to monitor developments closely and has urged residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and cooperative with security agencies. It further cautioned against the spread of misinformation and called for restraint to prevent further escalation of tensions.
