A key figure in Dr. Bryan Acheampong’s 2028 presidential bid, Dr. Razak Kojo Opoku, has slammed fellow New Patriotic Party (NPP) members for trying to drag up a decade-old smear piece from a defunct newspaper linked to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The article in question, first published in Alhaji Bature’s Al-Hajj newspaper on January 31, 2014, and later featured on GhanaWeb, has resurfaced on social media, sparking controversy.
According to Dr. Opoku, this desperate attempt to discredit Dr. Acheampong’s growing popularity within the party is a clear indication of internal sabotage.
“Let it be known that Dr. Bryan Acheampong has never commented on Ken Agyapong’s utterances following the 2024 general election,” Dr. Opoku stated.
“So, how does a propaganda piece from 2014 suddenly gain relevance in 2025, 11 years later?”
Dr. Opoku questioned the motives behind reviving content from a partisan source and attempting to weaponize it within internal NPP politics. He cautioned party members against allowing misinformation to derail the unity and forward momentum of the party as it prepares for the 2028 elections.
The Bryan Acheampong campaign, which has been gaining traction among key grassroots figures within the NPP, has in recent weeks come under scrutiny from both within and outside the party. Dr. Opoku insists that the focus must remain on integrity, facts, and the future, not recycled misinformation. “This kind of distraction does nothing but weaken our collective resolve,” he concluded. “Let’s build our campaign on vision, not vendettas.”
