The Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has issued a stern warning to MultiChoice Ghana, stating that the government will shut down DStv operations if the company fails to engage in discussions on reducing subscription prices.
This ultimatum comes as the deadline for compliance expires today, September 6, 2025.
According to him, MultiChoice Ghana initially showed willingness to discuss pricing concerns and requested a suspension of enforcement actions. However, the company’s latest statement suggests a change in position, prompting the government to consider enforcement measures.
“I have no intention to continue tolerating the disrespect to Ghanaians by DStv,” Minister George emphasized. “If MultiChoice is not interested, as they claim in their last statement, in discussing a reduction in prices as they had indicated to me, we would proceed to effect the shutdown [today] as indicated.”
The government had imposed a daily fine of GH¢10,000 on MultiChoice Ghana for failing to submit required pricing data, which has accumulated to approximately GH¢150,000. Minister George stressed that no company is above the law and urged MultiChoice to return to the negotiation table if ready to discuss price reductions.
“Until then, there is nothing for us to meet over. The NCA would carry out enforcement,” he added. Ghana remains open to businesses that respect its laws and institutions, Mr. George emphasised.
