The Ghana Grid Company and Electricity Company of Ghana have announced a series of planned and emergency maintenance exercises across four regions on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, resulting in temporary power outages in several communities.

According to notices issued by the power distributors, the maintenance works are intended to facilitate critical infrastructure upgrades and improve the long-term reliability of the national power network.

The outages will affect parts of the Accra East, Accra West, Tema, Central, and Volta Regions, with varying durations depending on the scope of work in each area. GRIDCo is also expected to undertake emergency maintenance at the Aflao Bulk Supply Point.

Accra East Region

A planned maintenance exercise will take place from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, affecting Dzen Ayor, Ability, Haatso Trotro Station, Agbogba Junction, 37, and nearby communities.

Accra West Region

Power supply will also be interrupted from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm in areas including Broadcasting, New Bortianor, Adanseman, Cassava Farms, Mr. Obeng, Oshieyie, and surrounding communities.

Tema Region

In the Tema Region, maintenance works scheduled from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm will affect Sackey, Bediako, High Tension, Golf City, Bright Star School, Jericho, Roman Down, Underbridge Market, State School for the Deaf, Adjei Kodjo, Kanawu, Community 22, Michell Camp, and nearby areas.

The six-hour outage is expected to affect both residential communities and institutions, including the State School for the Deaf.

Central Region

A separate planned maintenance operation from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm will affect several communities in the Central Region, including parts of Apam Junction, Apam Township, Mumford, Gomoa Dago, Ankamu Junction, Gomoa Ajumako, Gomoa Akwakrom, Gomoa Nkransh, Gomoa Obokrom, Gomoa Kumasi, Gomoa Enyame, Gomoa Dankyie, Gomoa Koforidua, Gomoa Dawurampong, Gomoa Nduam, Gomoa Wassa, Gomoa Nkran, Gomoa Esikuman, Gomoa Debiso, Gomoa Darman, Gomoa Abonko, Gomoa Lome, Gomoa Ogun, and surrounding areas.

Volta Region

In the Volta Region, GRIDCo will carry out emergency maintenance works at the Aflao Bulk Supply Point from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm.

The exercise will affect Denu, Aflao, Ave Towns, Hedzranawo, Havedzi, Kedzi, Adina, Agavedzi, Keta, Afiadenyigba, Atiteti, Tsavanya, Anlo, Nakyikope, Abor, parts of Akatsi, Dzodze, and nearby communities.

Ongoing Network Faults

The scheduled maintenance comes amid efforts by ECG to address multiple network faults recorded on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.

In the Accra East Region, a fault on the Taifa Burkina Feeder disrupted power supply to Taifa Police Station, Taifa Mr. Agyei, Taifa Burkina, Taifa Oboohene, and surrounding communities.

Meanwhile, a separate network fault in the Tema Region affected Doryumu, Wildlife Gate, Eastern Quarries, Twin Quarries, Recycling, Inzag, Shai Hills Military Training Camp, Bright Cement, Mawu be ji be, City Escape, Miotso, Potters City, Prampram Township, Abia, Kpoi Ete, and surrounding areas.

ECG and GRIDCo apologised to customers for the inconvenience caused by both the planned outages and the unexpected faults.

The companies assured the public that engineers are working to resolve all technical challenges while stressing that the maintenance exercises are necessary to strengthen the reliability and stability of the electricity network nationwide.
