The Ministry of Education Ghana has acknowledged concerns raised by the University Teachers Association of Ghana following the association’s recent press conference, and has established a committee to examine the issues.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry, the Minister for Education has constituted a three-member investigative committee to review UTAG’s allegations and submit recommendations to John Dramani Mahama.
The committee is chaired by Clement Apaak, Deputy Minister for Education. Other members include Professor K.T. Oduro, Technical Advisor to the Ministry, and Professor Mahama Duweijua, Board Chairman of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission.
The Ministry has called on all stakeholders to cooperate fully with the committee as it undertakes its mandate, reaffirming its commitment to dialogue and the resolution of outstanding issues within the tertiary education sector.
The statement was signed by Press Secretary Hashmin Mohammed on behalf of the Minister for Education.
The development comes amid escalating tensions, as UTAG intensifies its demands for the removal of both the Director-General and Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission. The association has also issued a 14-day ultimatum to the government and is calling for the withdrawal of certain directives it considers to have been improperly issued.
