The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, has directed the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to deploy 200 new transformers across major urban centers. This move aims to enhance power distribution and address recent supply challenges caused by intermittent power outages. The decision follows weeks of power disruptions and seeks to strengthen infrastructure to meet growing industrial and residential demand.
Speaking at the 2025 West African Mining and Power Expo (WAMPEX) in Accra, Jinapor assured that Ghana’s overall power supply remains stable, with the country exporting electricity to neighboring states. He emphasized the government’s commitment to reliable energy delivery, stating, “We need to continue improving the transmission and distribution networks.”
The new transformers will ensure effective and efficient power distribution to consumers. This development comes as ECG has been working to improve power reliability in areas like Tse Addo, where a mobile transformer was deployed to ease pressure on existing infrastructure ¹.
Jinapor’s directive underscores the government’s efforts to address power challenges and provide a stable energy supply to meet the country’s growing demands.
