The Economic and Organised Crime Office has asked Ghanaians to avoid passing judgment on detained lawyer and MP, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, while its probe continues.
In a statement issued Thursday, October 1, 2026, EOCO said the Senior Partner of Sarkodie, Baffour Awuah and Partners and Member of Parliament for Manhyia South reported himself to its head office around 10 a.m., to support the inquiry.
He was later taken into custody as investigators began formal procedures. The case relates to suspected criminal conspiracy, causing financial loss to SIC Savings and Loans, money laundering and tax offences, among other issues under review.
According to the anti-crime agency, no determination has been made yet and people should not assume guilt before investigations and court processes run their full course.
EOCO said it will keep following all leads and assessing the evidence on record, while guaranteeing that everyone connected to the matter will have their constitutional rights fully respected.
The Office added that the probe will be handled in a professional, impartial manner and in line with due process, and that updates will be shared when it is appropriate and lawful to do so.
