The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) is battling a major fire outbreak at a rubber factory near Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra, despite challenging weather conditions caused by heavy rainfall.
Assistant Division Officer One (ADO I) Alex King Nartey of the GNFS Public Relations Department confirmed the incident in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, saying four fire tenders have been deployed to the scene to contain the rapidly spreading blaze.
Although the cause of the fire is yet to be established, ADO I Nartey assured the public that firefighters are on the ground working tirelessly to bring the inferno under control.
He also disclosed that firefighters had earlier successfully extinguished a separate fire at a house in the Sakaman Blue Lagoon area.
According to him, the ongoing heavy rains have significantly disrupted firefighting operations across the capital. He explained that a team from the Circle Fire Station, which was responding to the Sakaman incident, became stranded at Kaneshie due to flooding.
“When the team got to Sakaman, they needed reinforcement, but when the Circle team moved, they were stranded at Kaneshie,” he said.
Despite the operational challenges posed by the weather, ADO I Nartey assured Ghanaians that the Fire Service remains fully committed to protecting lives and property.
He further revealed that, in addition to firefighting operations, personnel have been deployed to flood-prone communities across Accra to assist with rescue efforts as heavy rains continue to affect parts of the capital.
