The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) have deployed personnel to several flood-prone communities in Accra to support residents affected by heavy rains that have inundated parts of the capital.
The Commanding Officer of the 48 Engineer Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel Frank Osei Amponsah, said the military has activated Operation Boafo to assist with rescue and relief efforts in communities impacted by the flooding.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Monday, Lt Col Amponsah disclosed that military personnel have been stationed at strategic locations, including Klagon, Tse Addo, Dzowulu and other surrounding flood-prone communities to provide rapid emergency response.
According to him, the deployment is aimed at protecting lives and providing timely assistance to residents trapped by rising floodwaters.
He revealed that rescue teams have already assisted several individuals who were stranded in their homes after calling for help.
Residents requiring emergency assistance have been urged to contact the Operation Boafo emergency line on 0244 312 667.
Lt Col Amponsah further stated that although flooding remains severe in some areas, no fatalities had been recorded at the time of reporting. He assured the public that the situation is being closely monitored and that the military will continue to work alongside other emergency response agencies to safeguard lives and property.
The deployment forms part of ongoing coordinated efforts by security and emergency services to manage the impact of the heavy rains and flooding across the Greater Accra Region.
