Five people have been arrested by National Security Ghana for their alleged involvement in the manufacture and distribution of fake DV number plates across Ghana.
The arrests were made during a joint operation between Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) and National Security.
The suspects were apprehended at Lapaz and Nahrman, as well as in Tarkwa and Kumasi, following intelligence linking them to the illegal production and circulation of the plates.
According to the DVLA, the suspects have been put before a court and remanded into custody. They are expected to reappear on March 17, 2026.
Authorities say two additional suspects connected to the operation are currently at large.
The DVLA also revealed that many of the fake DV plates distributed by the group were accompanied by forged motor insurance documents, making them appear legitimate.
The Authority warned the public about the increasing circulation of fake DV plates and reminded motorists that Regulation 23 of the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2180) clearly defines who qualifies to use DV number plates.
It further cautioned that forging or using fake DV plates, or driving vehicles with duplicate plates, constitutes a criminal offence under the law.
