The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has advised members of the Tijjaniya Muslim Movement of Ghana travelling to Senegal for pilgrimage to exercise caution when making their travel arrangements.
In a travel advisory issued on August 21, the Ministry said Senegal remains safe for travellers but raised concerns about the security situation along some road corridors leading to Dakar.
The Ministry noted that the concerns were particularly relevant to travellers undertaking long-distance journeys by road. It therefore urged prospective pilgrims and other travellers to consider air travel as the safer and more secure option.
Travellers who have already made arrangements to journey to Senegal by road were also encouraged to reconsider their plans and opt for air transportation.
“The Ministry urges the Tijjaniya Muslim pilgrims as well as prospective travellers to adhere to this advisory and prioritise their personal safety and security,” the statement said.
The Ministry further assured Ghanaian nationals that it remains committed to their welfare, safety and protection while abroad.
It added that it would continue to closely monitor the situation in Senegal in collaboration with relevant international partners and provide updates as necessary.
