The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has announced the commencement of training for the first batch of recruits under its ongoing nationwide recruitment exercise.
In a press release issued by its Department of Public Relations, the military said it has completed the selection of 2,000 recruits, representing the first of four batches to undergo training.
According to the statement, the selected recruits have been invited to report to their respective selection centres across all 16 regions on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at 0900 hours to receive their appointment letters and prospectus ahead of training.
The Armed Forces also encouraged applicants who encountered curable medical conditions during the screening process to seek treatment, assuring that they would be reconsidered at a later date at no additional cost.
The statement further revealed that the first batch includes 18 individuals who were injured during the El-Wak Stadium stampede last year, as well as five others sponsored by families of victims of the incident.
The military expressed appreciation to all 16 Regional Administrations for their support, noting that decentralising the recruitment process aligns with the government’s directive to make enlistment more accessible to applicants nationwide.
It also assured applicants yet to be selected to remain calm, indicating that the selection process for the remaining batches is ongoing. The statement added that a pool of high-performing candidates from the aptitude tests would be maintained for future recruitment exercises beyond this year.
Additionally, the Armed Forces disclosed that a directive to facilitate recruitment for individuals from Sikaman who assisted in last year’s helicopter crash rescue operation is under consideration for inclusion in the second batch of training.
The Ghana Armed Forces reiterated its commitment to a transparent and inclusive recruitment process as it prepares the next generation of military personnel.
