The Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association has sanctioned Hohoe United FC following the club’s withdrawal from the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League.
The club has been suspended from the Premier League and all GFA-organised competitions until the 2029/2030 season. Upon completion of the suspension, Hohoe United FC will be demoted to Division Two under the Greater Accra Regional Football Association.
According to a statement issued by the GFA Communications Department, the decision—delivered on Friday, May 1, 2026—followed the club’s unilateral withdrawal from the ongoing league campaign. The Committee determined that the action constituted a breach of Article 13 of the Ghana Premier League Regulations and found the club guilty of misconduct.
The ruling noted that Hohoe United formally notified the GFA on April 1, 2026, of its decision to discontinue participation during the second round of the competition and subsequently failed to honour its fixtures.
As part of the sanctions, all registered players of Hohoe United FC have been granted free agent status by the GFA’s Players’ Status Committee, subject only to any prior transfer conditions from their former clubs. The club has also been directed to refund all forms of support received from the GFA for the 2025/26 season, including financial assistance and equipment.
The statement further clarified that the suspension does not absolve the club of any outstanding financial obligations owed to the GFA or its affiliates. In accordance with GFA statutes, Hohoe United FC has been granted a three-day window from the date of notification to file an appeal with the Appeals Committee if it wishes to challenge the decision.
