Interior Minister, Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak, has stated that the Ghana Card has moved far past simple ID status to become a key pillar for national safety, governance and financial inclusion.
Speaking at the National Identification Authority’s (NIA) 20th Anniversary launch in Accra on Thursday, May 21, 2026, themed “Reflecting on the Past, Securing the Future,” he stated the biometric ID system now sits at the heart of public service delivery and development.

“Creating a national identity framework is an ongoing mission. It must adapt with our citizens, our economy and our national goals,” he declared.

He pledged continued state backing for the NIA and called on staff, partners and donors to maintain momentum and keep Ghana leading regional identity systems. NIA Executive Secretary Wisdom Kwaku Deku also spoke, reviewing two decades of gains and stressing how digital tools have sharpened efficiency and modernized operations. He stressed the Ghana Card remains essential for broader inclusion and smoother access to services across Ghana.
