The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed the successful evacuation of all Ghanaian diplomatic staff from Iran following the intensifying conflict involving the United States and Israel.

The Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa announced in a post on Monday, March 2, 2026, that the diplomats are safe and in good spirits following the operation.

According to the minister, Ghana’s embassy in Iran is now closed sine die, reflecting the country’s commitment to ensuring the safety and welfare of its citizens abroad.

“The safety, welfare and protection of Ghanaians remains our utmost priority in these tempestuous times,” Mr Ablakwa said.

While details surrounding the closure were not disclosed, the Minister stated that the move was precautionary, aimed at safeguarding staff amid regional uncertainties.

He said that the government continues to monitor developments closely and is expected to provide updates on diplomatic engagements with Iran as the situation evolves.

The evacuation comes against the backdrop of escalating military exchanges between Israel, Iran, and the United States, which have heightened fears of a broader regional confrontation.

Recent developments have seen coordinated strikes and counter-threats raise global alarm over the stability of the Middle East. Analysts warn that the situation carries significant risks for diplomatic missions, foreign nationals and international shipping routes in the region.
