Ghana’s men’s 4x100m relay team placed fourth in their heat at the ongoing World Athletics Relays in Botswana, narrowly missing qualification for the final despite recording a season-best time of 38.19 seconds.
The quartet—Joseph Paul Amoah, Benjamin Azamati, Abdul Rasheed Saminu, and Edwin Gadayi—delivered a competitive performance in a tightly contested Heat Three. Saminu provided a strong opening leg; however, a slightly disrupted baton exchange on the second leg involving Azamati affected the team’s overall momentum. Amoah maintained composure on the third leg, while Gadayi anchored the team to a determined fourth-place finish.
South Africa secured victory in the heat with a time of 37.68 seconds, followed by Great Britain in 38.01 seconds, with both teams earning qualification for the World Championships in Beijing. China finished third with the same time as Ghana (38.19 seconds), while Nigeria placed fifth in 38.31 seconds.
Ghana’s team will have another opportunity to qualify in the second round as they continue their campaign for a place at next year’s World Championships in Beijing.
