Ghana recorded total export earnings of $6.2 billion in the first two months of 2026, a sharp increase from the $4.2 billion posted during the same period in 2024.
The strong performance follows a record export year in 2025, when the country earned $31.1 billion in total exports.
According to the latest Summary of Economic and Financial Data released by the Bank of Ghana, gold remained the country’s top export, generating $4.2 billion between January and February 2026, up from $2.3 billion in the same period in 2024. In 2025 alone, gold exports reached $20 billion, nearly double the $10.3 billion recorded in 2024.
Cocoa earnings, however, declined to $956 million from $1.1 billion, while other exports also dipped slightly to $540 million compared to $596 million in 2024.
On the import side, Ghana spent $2.5 billion over the same period, unchanged from 2024. This included $825 million on oil imports and $1.6 billion on other goods.
The strong export performance resulted in a trade surplus of $3.2 billion, up from $2.1 billion in the first two months of 2024, largely driven by increased gold earnings.
