Ghana’s economy grew by 5.8 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2025, up from 4.0 per cent in the same period of 2024, the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has reported.

GSS indicated that real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the fourth quarter of 2025 was GH¢56.4 billion, compared with GH¢53.3 billion in the fourth quarter of 2024.

Dr Alhassan Iddrisu, Government Statistician, speaking at a press briefing, said the agriculture sector recorded real GDP growth of 5.3 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2025, up from 3.2 per cent in the same period of 2024.

“The sector contributed 21 per cent overall GDP growth and accounted for 20 per cent of total GDP. Growth in Agriculture was mainly driven by crops sub‑sector including cocoa which returned to positive growth during the period,” he said.

Dr Iddrisu noted that the industry sector recorded real GDP growth of 1.9 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2025, compared with 0.3 per cent in the same period of 2024.

He explained that despite a 15.6 per cent decline in oil and gas production, which constrained performance, the sector contributed 9.4 per cent to overall GDP growth and accounted for 29.6 per cent of GDP.

“Positive growth was recorded in manufacturing and electricity which helped support industrial output,” he said.

According to GSS, the services sector recorded real GDP growth of 8.6 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2025, up from 6.9 per cent in the same period of 2024.

It contributed 63.4 per cent to total GDP growth and accounted for 50.6 per cent of the country’s GDP.

Within the review period, expanding sub‑sectors contributed 61.8 per cent to overall growth.

These included Information and Communication (28.3 per cent), Public Administration, Defence and Social Security (11.8 per cent), Education (11.3 per cent), Transport and Storage (10.6 per cent) and Electricity (7.2 per cent).

Conversely, the most contracting sub‑sectors were Forestry and Logging (-10.4 per cent), Accommodation and Food Service Activities (-4.5 per cent), Water Supply, Sewage and Waste (-4.0 per cent), Real Estate (-2.0 per cent) and Other Personal Service Activities (-2.0 per cent).
