The Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has disclosed that assets worth GHS1.5 billion have been frozen as part of ongoing investigations under the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative.
Speaking in Parliament during the opening debate on the State of the Nation Address, Mr Kwakye Ofosu noted that while significant progress has been made, some funds cannot be fully recovered until implicated individuals are prosecuted and convicted.
He also clarified reports linking GHS600 million in recoveries specifically to ORAL, stating the figure reflects general recoveries of misappropriated public funds, not amounts directly secured through the programme.
The parliamentary session saw spirited exchanges, with Minority MPs raising concerns over cocoa sector management and rising national security challenges. John Ntim Fordjour, Ranking Member of the Defence and Interior Committee, pressed the government on emerging security threats, while Akwasi Gyamfi Onyina-Acheampong highlighted economic performance and sectoral issues.
On the Majority side, Finance Committee Chairman Isaac Adongo defended government fiscal policies, citing ongoing reforms to stabilise the economy and restore public confidence. NDC MP Kofi Benteh Afful praised the administration’s efforts to combat corruption and improve accountability within public institutions.
