The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has warned Ghanaians to prepare for continued heavy and frequent rainfall, following recent flooding in parts of the Greater Accra Region. The Head of GMet’s Central Analysis and Forecast Office, Felicity Ahafianyo, has advised residents, especially those in flood-prone areas, to consider relocating, noting that the seasonal downpours have already begun.
“When we came out with the seasonal forecast, we indicated that it is likely the intensity may be more or higher, and in terms of the frequency, too, it is something that we need to be abreast with. It has started already. As we witnessed yesterday along the coast,” she said.
Ahafianyo added, “On Friday, we had a similar event in the Volta Region, where it also rained for more than an hour. This is how it is going to be until we end the major rainy season over the southern sector.”
The GMet official called on the media to support their efforts by regularly sharing weather updates to keep the public informed and prepared.
