The Ghana National Fire Service has rescued a 29-year-old woman from a drain near the Afrikiko Traffic Light in Accra following a swift emergency response.
According to the Service, a distress call was received at its Jubilee House office at about 07:39 a.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, prompting the immediate dispatch of a rescue team to the scene.

A five-member crew, led by Assistant Divisional Officer I Alex Amankwah, successfully retrieved the woman—identified as Rita James—at approximately 08:30 a.m.
She was later handed over to the police at the Nima Police Station for further investigation and subsequently referred to the Accra Psychiatric Hospital at Asylum Down for treatment.

The victim reportedly told officials that she had spent the night in the drain after allegedly being chased by unknown individuals she believed intended to harm her. Authorities say further investigations are ongoing.
