Former Attorney-General, Godfred Yeboah Dame, has rejected allegations of conflict of interest in his decision to represent suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo in a Supreme Court case. The Chief Justice is seeking an injunction to halt proceedings of a committee investigating petitions for her removal from office and wants Justices Gabriel Scott Pwamang and Samuel Kwame Adibu-Asiedu barred from participating due to alleged impartiality concerns.
Dame insists he’s acted within the law, saying, “It’s about time good men in this country speak for what’s righteous and right.” He emphasizes his track record of defending the judiciary, stating, “If there’s any Attorney-General who’s stood up for the judiciary and spoken against attacks on it, it’s myself.”
The writ filed by Dame on behalf of Justice Torkornoo names the following as defendants:
- Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang
- Justice Samuel Kwame Adibu-Asiedu
- Daniel Yao Domelevo, former Auditor-General
- Major Flora Bazwaanura Dalugo
- Professor James Sefah Dzisah
Justice Torkornoo seeks a court order to restrain the committee from proceeding with the inquiry into petitions for her removal, following her suspension by President John Dramani Mahama under Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution, pending the case’s final determination [User’s Text].
