Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has announced significant progress on the government’s flagship Accra-Kumasi Expressway project, revealing that about 51 kilometres of the proposed corridor have so far been cleared by the Ghana Armed Forces.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, May 28, Dr Forson commended the military for what he described as the “phenomenal work” being carried out on President John Mahama’s major infrastructure initiative.

According to the Finance Minister, compensation payments to residents and property owners affected by the project are expected to begin in June following the completion of assessments by the relevant state agencies.

Dr Forson stated that work on the expressway was progressing steadily and professionally, adding that the project would become one of the country’s most strategic and economically transformative road networks when completed.

“The progress made so far is truly impressive,” he said.

The proposed Accra-Kumasi Expressway is expected to significantly improve transportation between Ghana’s two largest cities, reduce travel time for commuters, and facilitate trade and economic activities across the country.
