The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has been making waves in Ghana’s sports scene, and Africa particularly in hockey and basketball, under the guidance of Sports Director Mr. Ebenezer Frimpong, and the entire technical management team.

The GRA Ladies hockey team dominated the 2025 Salpholda Hockey League, finishing the season with a perfect record of 33 points from 10 matches and winning all their games in both rounds. They successfully defended their title that books them a place at the upcoming Africa Cup for Club Championship though they had already secured an automatic spot as the defending Africa champions.

The team’s strong performance in the Greater Accra Hockey League has been a major confidence booster ahead of continental competitions.

GRA Ladies have won the prestigious Africa Cup for Club Championship on five occasions in 2017, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2025 editions showcasing their prowess on the continental stage. And remains the only Ghanaian hockey team to win the continental trophy. They were also recognized as Female Club of the Year, with their captain, Elizabeth Opoku, winning Female Hockey Player of the Year.

The ladies have won all 4 competitions this year, Africa Cup for Club Championship,T – Tommy tournament in Kumasi, Oguaa Fetu tournament in Cape coast and GAHA league, whiles the GRA men placed second in the recently concluded league and winning the men’s T-Tommy tournament.

Under Mr. Frimpong’s leadership, the team has demonstrated strategic planning, team motivation, and tactical decisions that have contributed to their success. The GRA management has provided financial and morale support to the team, underscoring its commitment to promoting sports development in the country.

In an exclusive interview with this portal on Saturday, 20th September, 2025 at the hockey league awards presentations, Mr. Frimpong expressed gratitude to the entire technical brains for the tremendous inputs in ensuring victory. According to him, the management of the Authority are poised to total talents development and sports promotion. He mentioned that plans are being executed towards the continental club championship early next year.

He went on to appreciate the good work of his predecessors, Mr. Dawson Amoah, Madam Angelina Ocran and the late Benjamin Baafi.

“Though it is under my watch that we have annexed all these honours, the success story of GRA sports will be incomplete without acknowledging the 3 former Sports Directors. I thank the Commissioner General, Top Management and the entire staff of GRA for their support”. He added.

The GRA hockey team’s success with technical support from the coaches has brought pride to Ghana, showcasing the country’s sporting talent on the continental stage.

Mr. Frimpong, further stated that though GRA’s core mandate is to mobilize revenue for the development of the country, they have gone the extra mile to help in using sports as a tool toward national development.

“The benefits of sports in the development of a nation is the most key factor for a strong economy. We in GRA will use sports to help in national development and urges all to come on board. A healthy people, healthy environment is the hallmark of a healthy country.” The sports director, Mr. Ebenezer Frimpong, stressed.
