The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has launched its highly anticipated “Yɛn Suro Ahunahuna” protest in Accra, with hundreds of supporters marching through the streets to express their outrage over alleged harassment and injustice against party members.
The demonstration, which started at the Obra Spot near Kwame Nkrumah Circle, is headed to the Ghana Police Service headquarters, where the party will submit a petition to Inspector-General of Police (IGP) COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno.
NPP leaders accuse the police of being used by the government to target and intimidate opposition members, claiming a growing pattern of politically motivated arrests and investigations. They stress that the rights of their members and sympathizers are being undermined, and the march aims to draw public attention to these issues.
Security personnel have been deployed along the protest route to maintain order as the demonstration moves through key streets of the capital. The party is determined to highlight what they perceive as injustices and demand action from the authorities.
