The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has ordered the immediate suspension of the Principal of the Nurses and Midwifery Training College in Nalerigu in the North East Region.
The decision follows preliminary investigations which uncovered instances of unauthorised admissions at the institution.
The directive was issued during the Minister’s working tour of the Upper East, North East and Northern Regions, where he inspected health facilities and training institutions to evaluate service delivery and operational standards. After receiving a briefing on the reported irregularities, he proceeded to the Nalerigu-based college and, based on initial findings, directed that the head of the institution be suspended pending further investigations.
Mr Akandoh stressed that strict compliance with established admission procedures is non-negotiable, cautioning that heads of training institutions who engage in unauthorised practices will face decisive sanctions.
He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to transparency, accountability and the maintenance of high standards across health training institutions nationwide.
