The Ministry of Health has welcomed the conviction of a man found guilty of assaulting a midwife at the Tema Community 22 Polyclinic, describing the court’s ruling as a strong affirmation of the need to protect health workers from abuse.
In a statement issued on June 10, 2026, the ministry expressed its full support for the conviction of Desmond Bosomtwe, who was ordered by the court to pay a fine of GH¢1,200 and compensation of GH¢5,000 to the victim.
“The Ministry firmly supports the conviction of Desmond Bosomtwe, who was found guilty of assaulting the health worker. The court’s decision, which includes a fine of GH¢1,200, a bond of good behaviour, restricted access to the facility, and compensation of GH¢5,000 to the victim, underscores the importance of protecting health personnel from abuse,” the statement said.
The ministry also commended the Ghana Police Service for its role in investigating the incident and ensuring that the matter was successfully prosecuted.
According to the ministry, the judgment sends a strong message that violence against healthcare workers will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
It stressed that health professionals deserve a safe and secure working environment in order to provide quality healthcare services to the public and warned that any acts of aggression or abuse directed at health workers would be treated seriously.
The Ministry of Health further reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote professionalism, accountability and the safety of healthcare personnel across the country.
It expressed hope that the ruling would serve as a deterrent to individuals who engage in acts of violence against health workers and contribute to greater respect for frontline medical staff in the discharge of their duties.
