The Health Ministry has received financial approval to settle payments for thousands of health workers serving their mandatory duty, expected to clear salary arrears and introduce a monthly payment system.
In a statement issued by spokesperson Tony Goodman on March 13, the ministry revealed that the Finance Ministry has approved allowances and salaries for 14,279 nurses and midwives, as well as 637 medical and dental interns nationwide.
The approval follows talks between the Health and Finance Ministries to support newly trained health professionals. The clearance covers various nursing cadres, including Registered General Nurses and Public Health Nurses, who started rotations last year. It also includes salaries for 637 medical and dental interns who joined the service in November 2025 after passing council exams.
“The approvals will clear outstanding payments and pave the way for monthly allowances for health professionals,” Goodman said, adding that this will replace the previous arrangement where payments were accrued and settled later, affecting nurses and allied pros. The new system aims to support health workers better
