The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has called on parents to prioritise the proper upbringing of their children, stressing the importance of instilling discipline and moral values grounded in Islamic teachings.
Speaking at the Annual Dr. Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu Ramadan Lectures held at the National Mosque, the minister urged parents to spend quality time with their children, guiding them in the teachings of Allah so they grow into responsible and disciplined members of society.
He emphasised that strong family values and good nurturing are crucial for building peaceful and secure communities.

“Public safety is closely linked to the values instilled in individuals and families,” Mr Muntaka said, noting that responsible upbringing contributes to social stability and national security.
The minister also called on Muslim leaders and Zongo chiefs to actively promote peace, security, and social responsibility within their communities. He stressed the role of traditional and religious leaders in guiding young people and fostering values such as compassion, justice, and discipline.
Highlighting the challenges of drug abuse, he urged community leaders to take proactive steps to curb the problem, which he noted contributes to insecurity in many areas.

“Let us work together to create opportunities and guide our youth towards success,” he said, referencing the Prophet’s teaching that “seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim.”
Mr Muntaka further underscored the importance of inner peace and collective responsibility in promoting public safety and highlighted government efforts to tackle security challenges.
He also pointed to education and vocational training as key tools for empowering Zongo communities, citing the Qur’anic verse: “Indeed, Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves” (Suratul Al-Ra’d 13:11).

National Chief Imam Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu also addressed the gathering, urging Muslims to abandon evil deeds and remain obedient to Allah’s teachings to live in peace.
He offered prayers for the Muslim community and wished them a blessed Ramadan, expressing hope that the holy month would bring peace, security, prosperity, and stability to Ghana.
The event was organised by the National Mosque and the Hudai Foundation, in collaboration with the Office of the National Chief Imam.
