Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has officially entered the contest for the party’s National Chairmanship position.
Mr Boadu submitted his nomination at the NPP’s national headquarters at Asylum Down in Accra on Thursday, August 27, ahead of the party’s national executive elections scheduled for October 3.
He was accompanied by several party supporters, including the MPs for Fanteakwa and Trobu, the NPP Volta Regional Chairman and former Members of Parliament.
Mr Boadu is one of several aspirants seeking to lead the party as it prepares for the national elections.
His nomination follows a Global InfoAnalytics survey that placed him ahead of other prominent contenders, including former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko and former NPP Chairman Paul Afoko.
The survey, released on August 20, showed Mr Boadu with 27 per cent support among NPP voters, compared with 15 per cent for Mr Agyarko and 10 per cent for Mr Afoko. However, 47 per cent of respondents were undecided.
Mr Boadu also recorded the strongest favourability rating among the three, with 61 per cent favourable and 12 per cent unfavourable views, giving him a net favourability score of 49 per cent.
Regional results placed him ahead of the two other candidates in several regions, including Bono East, Greater Accra, North East, Northern, Upper East and Central.
Despite his early lead, the large number of undecided voters leaves the contest open as candidates step up their campaigns ahead of the October 3 elections.
