Newly appointed Defence Minister Kenneth Gilbert Adjei has pledged to approach his new assignment with renewed energy and a strong sense of duty following his reassignment from the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources.
Mr Adjei expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for the confidence placed in him and for the opportunity to serve in his previous portfolio.
In a message posted on X on Friday, August 7, the Minister described his time at the Works, Housing and Water Resources Ministry as a period of service, learning and collaboration.
“My time at the Ministry has been one of service, learning, collaboration and, above all, a commitment to delivering on the mandate entrusted to us,” he said.
He commended staff of the ministry for their professionalism and dedication, saying the progress recorded during his tenure would not have been possible without their commitment.
“The progress and successes we achieved together would not have been possible without your commitment and sacrifice,” he added.
‘A deep sense of duty’
Mr Adjei said he was taking up his new responsibility at the Defence Ministry with humility and optimism, while expressing his readiness to contribute to strengthening Ghana’s security.
“As I take on my new responsibility at the Ministry of Defence, I do so with humility, renewed energy and a deep sense of duty,” he stated.
“I am optimistic about the road ahead and look forward to contributing meaningfully to our collective efforts to build a stronger and more secure Ghana.”
The new Defence Minister also thanked Ghanaians for their support, goodwill and prayers, describing them as an important source of encouragement in public service.
He called for a collective effort from stakeholders as he begins his new assignment.
“The work continues. Let us keep our sleeves rolled up, remain focused and work even harder to deliver for Ghana. I call on all hands to be on deck as we embrace this new chapter of service together,” he said.
He concluded his message with the words: “For Ghana. For Service. For Progress.”
Return to Defence Ministry
Mr Adjei’s appointment marks his return to the Defence Ministry, having previously served as Deputy Minister for Defence between 2015 and 2017 under President Mahama’s first administration.
He was appointed Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources in 2025, where he was involved in government programmes covering infrastructure, housing and water resources.
His reassignment to the Defence Ministry follows President Mahama’s latest changes to his administration.
Mr Adjei now assumes responsibility for a ministry at the centre of Ghana’s national security architecture, describing his appointment as a new chapter in his public service career.
