Local Government Minister Pushes For Constituency Offices For All MPs To Deepen Decentralisation

The Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, has called for the establishment of dedicated constituency offices for Members of Parliament across the country to strengthen grassroots governance.

According to him, such offices would serve as accessible platforms for constituents to directly engage their MPs, ensuring that concerns are addressed promptly while improving communication between lawmakers and the people they represent.

He made the remarks at a traditional and stakeholders’ forum held in Kasoa, where a new constituency office for the Awutu Senya East MP, Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor, was commissioned.

The Minister described the facility as a step in the right direction, noting that it would enhance the MP’s ability to interact with residents and respond effectively to local issues.

He stressed that replicating such initiatives nationwide would promote decentralisation and bring governance closer to the people.

He further urged stakeholders and relevant authorities to support the initiative to ensure that all constituencies benefit from improved access to parliamentary representation.

Meanwhile, Chairperson of the Local Government Committee of Parliament, Queenster Pokua Sawyer, clarified that plans to construct stores at the demolished Kasoa Old Market site were initiated under a previous administration and not by the current Awutu Senya East MP.
