The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has parted ways with Black Stars’ technical advisor, Winfried Schafer, amid ongoing changes to the senior national team’s coaching staff, according to reports.
Schafer was brought on board in late 2024 to assist Otto Addo after Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. His departure follows closely after Addo’s dismissal, as the FA continues to restructure the technical team in preparation for the upcoming World Cup.
Further changes are expected, with the incoming head coach likely to be given the freedom to select his own backroom staff.
Several names have been linked with the vacant coaching role, including Slaven Bilic, Carlos Queiroz and Fernando Santos.
The new coach is expected to be named soon and will have limited time to prepare the team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
