President John Dramani Mahama has called on the firm executing the 24-hour multipurpose market project in Bimbilla to maintain excellent workmanship, pointing to the facility’s lasting value for the local economy.
Addressing a sod-cutting event on Saturday, April 18, the President stressed the project’s strategic role, stating that Bimbilla’s position as a key food-growing centre means it merits one of the biggest model markets under the scheme.
He pointed to the zone’s role in national food supply, calling Bimbilla a top producer of yams, maize, beans and groundnuts, and noted that the market would act as a vital bridge between farmers, merchants and households.
The President said the site will feature 10 major warehouses to aid storage and distribution of farm produce, a step aimed at cutting post-harvest waste and lifting economic activity in the area.“
And so this market is going to improve economic activity… it will be the linkage between market, our households and the farm,” he stated.
President Mahama emphasised the need for lasting quality and strong standards in building the project, saying the market is meant to serve the community for generations.“I urge the contractor to do good quality work.
This market is going to be there for hundreds of years,” he said, adding that he would personally come back to inaugurate the project once finished.
Beyond construction, the President also highlighted the need for sound management and upkeep of the facility, urging the district assembly to make sure the market is properly operated. He indicated that the project would generate employment, including hiring a market manager tasked with running operations and keeping the facility up to standard.
