President John Dramani Mahama has called on global investors to rethink their perception of Africa, arguing that the continent should be viewed as a major investment opportunity rather than a risk.
Speaking at the 12th edition of the The Africa Debate in London on Wednesday, June 3, President Mahama described Africa as a key frontier for future growth, innovation and long-term economic value.
Addressing investors and business leaders, he urged them to move beyond traditional narratives of instability and focus instead on the continent’s expanding markets, growing urban population and vast untapped economic potential.
“Africa is not a risk to be managed. Africa is an opportunity to be seized,” the President said.
He argued that the next phase of global economic growth will increasingly be driven by emerging regions rather than mature economies alone, pointing to Africa’s demographic trends and development prospects as major advantages.
According to him, population growth, rapid urbanisation, rising consumer demand and the continent’s underutilised productive capacity position Africa as one of the world’s most promising destinations for investment.
“The next phase of global growth will not be driven solely by mature economies. Emerging regions will increasingly shape it as populations expand, urbanisation grows, consumption rises and untapped productive capacity is realised. Africa represents that frontier,” he stated.
President Mahama’s remarks formed part of a broader investment and diplomatic mission to the United Kingdom, during which he has engaged British officials, met members of the Ghanaian diaspora and participated in a series of business and policy forums aimed at strengthening economic partnerships.
The visit has focused on promoting Ghana as an attractive destination for investment while encouraging greater international engagement with Africa’s growing economic opportunities.
The President reiterated that Africa’s future should be defined by its potential for growth and innovation, urging investors to take advantage of opportunities emerging across the continent as it continues to transform its economies and expand its role in global development.
