Mahama Ayariga, Majority Leader in Parliament, has praised President John Dramani Mahama for his “transformative leadership,” following the 2026 State of the Nation Address.
Speaking on the floor of the House on Friday, February 27, Ayariga drew a vivid contrast between the Ghana the President inherited and the Ghana he now leads. “The Ghana you inherited is as dark as the dark dresses the Minority wear. The Ghana you speak of today is as bright as the white dresses we wear on this side,” he remarked.
He affirmed that the President’s account of the economy and ongoing reforms was accurate, pointing to visible development projects, including roadworks under the “Big Push” programme in Winneba, noting even the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, could attest to these achievements.
Touching on cocoa pricing, Ayariga compared Ghana to Ivory Coast, highlighting that Ghanaian farmers are paid GH₵2,587 per 64 kg bag—more than double the mid-crop rates in Ivory Coast, which range between 980 and 1,225 cedis per bag.
He also linked the improving economy to falling food prices, noting that essentials such as sugar and rice have become more affordable for Ghanaians.
Referencing the upcoming Ramadan period, Ayariga expressed confidence that Muslims nationwide would pray for the President’s continued success, adding, “Your sterling leadership, recognised across West Africa, is why you were unanimously elected to lead the continent. Ghanaians are proud of you.”
