Greater Accra Regional, Minister Linda Ocloo, has instructed Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the region to ramp up field work and take a more direct approach to public safety, cleanliness and flood readiness.
Her order comes after recent flooding in parts of Greater Accra, mostly blamed on poor waste handling and ongoing clogged drains.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, May 28, the Minister cautioned that the growing environmental and safety problems demand proactive leadership outside office walls.
“These are not normal times. I, therefore, charge my MMDCEs to be on alert and constantly be on the roads, markets, and schools to ensure our people are safe. No more sitting in the office because the work is on the ground. Let us all play our part to ensure a safer, cleaner, and flood-resilient Greater Accra,” she said.
She also praised the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), security services, sanitation staff, community helpers and other partners for their steady work in protecting residents and handling crises across the region.
Madam Ocloo emphasised that shared duty is vital to solving the region’s environmental problems, noting that constant field presence by local leaders will be crucial to boost sanitation enforcement, instill discipline, and cut disaster threats in at-risk areas.
