A leading figure in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, has officially announced his intention to contest for the position of National Vice Chairman when nominations open.
In a statement addressed to party members, Dr Abdul-Hamid said his decision follows sustained appeals from grassroots supporters urging him to contribute his experience and strategic insight toward revitalising the party.
He stressed that his ambition is driven not by personal interest but by a commitment to serve and give back to the NPP, which he credits for shaping his political journey. Reflecting on his early involvement, he noted that he was a founding member of the party’s University of Cape Coast branch in 1992 under the mentorship of the late J. K. B. Spio-Garbrah.
Dr Abdul-Hamid also recalled his presence at the historic bonfire held at Victoria Park in Cape Coast on May 18, 1992—an event that marked the transformation of the Danquah-Busia Club into the NPP.
Over the years, he has actively pursued several leadership roles within the party. He served as the first elected National Youth Organiser, contested for National Organiser in 2001, and later ran for General Secretary in 2005. He further built his profile as spokesperson to former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for a decade and played a key role as Deputy National Campaign Manager during the 2020 general elections.
Describing his political journey as one forged “in the fire of battle,” Dr Abdul-Hamid said both victories and setbacks have strengthened his resolve and equipped him with the intellectual capacity to support the party’s leadership.
He pledged to provide strong strategic backing to whoever emerges as chairman, highlighting the need for organisational rebuilding, unity, and effective coordination as the NPP prepares for future electoral contests.
Concluding his announcement, he called for renewed unity within the party, declaring: “Together, we shall re-strategise, rebuild and re-organise and return this party to its rightful place in leadership. The battle to recover our nation begins from within. Victoria Ascerta!”
