The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested three suspects following the interception of approximately five million tramadol tablets with an estimated street value of GH¢100 million at the Accra International Airport (AIA).
The arrests were made during an intelligence-led operation in which officials intercepted a shipment believed to contain the illicit pharmaceutical drugs.
In a Facebook post on Friday, July 17, NACOC said the operation forms part of its ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and protect public health and national security.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the consignment was intended for distribution within Ghana and possibly to other countries in the sub-region.
The Commission said investigators suspect the seizure is linked to a wider drug trafficking syndicate and are pursuing additional leads to identify and apprehend other individuals connected to the operation.
According to NACOC, the recovered tramadol tablets have been secured as evidence, while forensic and documentary examinations are underway to support the ongoing investigations.
The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks and ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice. It also appealed to the public to support law enforcement agencies by reporting suspicious activities.
The three suspects are expected to be arraigned before court upon the conclusion of investigations, in accordance with Ghana’s narcotics laws.
