Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, widely known as Nana Agradaa or Mama Pat, is being released from prison today, 3 March 2026, under Ghana’s standard remission rules after serving two-thirds of her revised custodial sentence.
She began her prison term on 3 July 2025. Under Ghana’s remission policy, eligible inmates may have up to one-third of their sentence reduced for good conduct, paving the way for her release today.
Background: Conviction and Sentence Review
Agradaa was convicted on 3 July 2025 by an Accra Circuit Court on multiple charges, including charlatanic advertisement and defrauding by false pretence. The charges stemmed from her promotion of a so-called money-doubling scheme during services at her church, Heaven Way Champion International Ministry in Weija, Greater Accra Region.
During the broadcast-style service, she was accused of promising miraculous financial returns in exchange for money paid by congregants — promises that did not materialise and subsequently triggered complaints.
The trial court initially sentenced her to 15 years’ imprisonment with hard labour, a decision that sparked widespread public debate.
However, on 5 February 2026, the Amasaman High Court upheld her conviction but ruled that the original sentence was excessive and disproportionate. The court reduced her prison term to 12 months and imposed a fine of 200 penalty units, equivalent to approximately GH¢2,400.
The revised sentence took effect from the date of conviction, making her eligible for remission in line with prison regulations.
Her lawyer, Richard Asare Baffour, has maintained that the remission and subsequent release follow standard prison procedures and are not special considerations, stressing that the policy is uniformly applied to inmates who qualify based on good behaviour.
Agradaa’s case has drawn significant national attention, reflecting both its legal implications and her high-profile status as a controversial media personality and former traditional priestess-turned-evangelist.
